Youth Empowering Youth: Five young people develop formats to enhance youth participation
Kick-off Participation Workshops in Brussels
Only one third of 14 to 24 year olds (29 percent) believe they can influence politics. These and other figures from the current youth study of the Vodafone Foundation call for a rethink. To shape the future, the voices of young people must not only be heard, but also included.
Within the framework of the Fellowship "Thinking of Europe", the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft is trying to take precisely this path. As part of our cooperation with Understanding Europe and Schwarzkopf Stiftung Junges Europa, this year, in addition to the training of our six Fellows, five young people from Romania, Portugal, Germany, Armenia and Austria will be accompanied in the development of participatory participation formats. The formats are intended to be oriented towards the target group of their peers and to animate the students creatively, activistically or within the framework of existing political participation processes to actively participate in political processes.
To this end, the five participants met decision-makers, activists and journalists in Brussels from 29 March to 1 April to listen to them and to sketch out initial ideas and starting points for the planning process of the formats and their implementation in the classrooms.
The aim is to then develop a format that they will implement with a group of 15-30 students in their respective countries, ideally before the summer holidays in 2022, but possibly also in autumn 2022.
